Welcome
to Colorado
Backcountry
|
| Southwest Colorado boasts more than 7 million
acres of public lands, parks and forests, surrounded by some
of the highest and most rugged peaks in the Rockies. |
 |
| Grand Mesa, Gunnison, San Juan and Uncompahgre
national forests have information on campgrounds, bicycle
routes, hiking trails, fishing and boating, hunting seasons,
wilderness use and the San Juan Skyway. Interpretive information,
maps and trail guides are readily available throughout the
region. |
| |
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Montrose
District also abounds with diverse cultural and recreational
opportunities. Discover the new Alpine Loop National Backcountry
Byway, winding over spectacular passes and through the ghost
towns between Ouray, Silverton and Lake City. Step into prehistory
at the Anasazi Heritage Center, a modern museum in Dolores;
or find solitude and challenge on the Dolores River and Gunnison
Gorge.
National Park information can be obtained at 303-969-2000. |
